Design Joinery & Doors began its journey in 1980 when Bob Williams and Leon Maddeford began production in a modest factory in Wingfield.
A year later Bob and Leon were joined by Paul Maddeford who started producing solid timber doors for sale to the trade.
As production and staff members grew in both businesses, the decision was made to relocate the “door” section to its own premises in Kilkenny.
In 1984 the combined strength of both companies made it possible to purchase a dual-purpose premises in Athol Park. With the shift in premises also came the change of name from “Design Joinery” to “Design Joinery & Doors Pty Ltd”.
Over the next few years both businesses flourished, however a decision was made by the directors to close the cabinetmaking section of Design Joinery and Doors and focus entirely on the supply of kitchen cabinetry components to the trade.
Some years later in 2007, Leon Maddeford retired and Bruce McNeill – the production manager of 25 years became a Director.
After operating from Athol Park for over two decades and continuously growing from strength to strength, a decision was made to relocate the business to a purpose-built factory in Salisbury North, accommodating for our expanding staff and machinery.
Unfortunately, around the same time, much like many other businesses Australia wide, Design Joinery was hit with the global financial crisis (GFC) which resulted in another move in premises to Pooraka.
After successfully conquering the GFC, Design Joinery has continued to grow in leaps and bounds.
Today Design Joinery and Doors is one of South Australia’s leading manufacturers of kitchen cabinetry components servicing many of the largest kitchen manufacturers both in South Australia and interstate.
